"Love Requires Relationship"

While re-reading the beginning of Paul's epistle to his beloved church at Ephesus, I came across these words of commentary by one of my favorite pastors, David Jeremiah.

"God is love, and love does not wish to be alone-by definition, love requires relationship. So, God chose for Himself a people to be His special possession."

God is obviously a "relational creator". In His Word to us, He makes it very clear that He desires and requires relationship with us. He created us for His pleasure in relationship. Logic dictates that God does not want to be alone.

As in all flourishing relationships, there is giving and receiving. The same goes in our relationship with God. When we make loving Him our first priority, our passion, He blesses us richly. I know from my own life experience that this is the truth.

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33

But we should not fool ourselves. The relationship God requires of us is not casual and "surface level". He despises "lukewarm relationship". It must be deep, intimate and full of the essence of love, giving and receiving.

To know God now and in eternity, we must love Him with all of our being. We all will meet our Creator God one day. He will either tell us He does not know us because there was no genuine relationship with Him, or He will embrace us in His amazing love and welcome us into His Kingdom!!
