My name is David—affectionately called “Popeye” by my grandkids—and I’m a 75‑year‑old originally from Bluefield, West Virginia, now living in Granite Quarry & Oak Island, North Carolina. I have three children, eight grandchildren, one great‑grandson, and married to my dream girl, Dakeita.

Professionally, I’ve spent the last 30 years in IT staffing and recruitment, following earlier chapters in sales and marketing. Though I once imagined becoming a minister, counselor, or coach, life took me down different paths. One of the most meaningful parts of my journey has been achieving and maintaining 15 years of sobriety from alcohol—a milestone that has shaped my faith, my clarity, and my gratitude for the life I now live.

I’m a graduate of Elon University with a degree in Philosophy, and I still joke about the limited job market for philosophers. I describe myself as a devout Christian Existentialist, an open‑minded moderate, and someone who loves thoughtful conversations about life, faith, culture, and even those “taboo” topics—religion and politics. My blog is an invitation into that kind of open, honest, and meaningful dialogue, always with a bit of humor and humanity woven in.
